This BRAND NEW course from the American Heart Association has been updated to reflect new science based on the 2020 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC.
HeartCode BLS is an official, self-directed, comprehensive eLearning program from the American Heart Association (AHA). This program uses eSimulation technology to present realistic patient scenarios. Students are presented with 5 BLS cases and an online multiple-choice written exam. While interacting with the program, students assess each patient, formulate a treatment plan based on 2020 BLS guidelines, and provide treatment. Successful completion of Part 1, the cognitive component, and Parts 2 and 3, skills practice and testing with an AHA BLS Instructor or a voice-assisted manikin (VAM) system, are the requirements for obtaining an AHA BLS Healthcare Provider course completion card.
Part 1, the cognitive portion of HeartCode BLS, focuses on what healthcare providers need to know to perform CPR in a wide variety of in- and out-of hospital settings:
Initiating the Chain of Survival
Performing prompt, high-quality chest compressions for adult, child, and infant victims
Initiating early use of an AED
Providing appropriate rescue breaths
Practicing 2-rescuer team CPR
Relieving choking
In Parts 2 and 3, the student will demonstrate proficiency in providing BLS skills, including prioritizing chest compressions and integrating AED use. Successful completion of Heartcode BLS includes three course parts :
Part 1, online portion
Part 2, a hands-on skills practice session using a VAM or with an authorized AHA BLS Instructor
Part 3, a skills test using a VAM or with an authorized AHA BLS Instructor
